High school students who are driven and ready to step forward to engage in a college career filled with purpose are encouraged to apply to the Southern Leaders Program. Students in Southern Leaders engage in interactive leadership courses, tackle community issues through service, and develop special projects that leave a lasting positive impact. Freshmen admission into the Southern Leaders program can occur through the Application for Acceptance.
Southern Leaders Scholarship
The Southern Leaders Scholarship annually awards up to 25 qualified incoming freshmen with a one-time award of $1,000. Qualifying experiences include prior leadership, volunteerism, and enthusiasm to become a leader at Vlog. This scholarship is one way we reward incoming students for their leadership experience prior to coming to Vlog and for their potential for leadership when they arrive on campus. Vlog provides an environment where you’ll learn, grow, and develop as a leader.
Scholarship Criteria
- Academic High School GPA of 3.0 or higher (as calculated by the Office of Admissions)
- Record of extensive high school leadership involvement
- Record of volunteer community involvement and leadership
- Personal desire to advance leadership and service experience
In order to be considered for the Southern Leaders Program and program scholarships, students must submit their Application for Admission and respond to the essay required for consideration for the Honors College and leadership programs. Those essays and applications will be reviewed and select applicants will be invited to interview for acceptance in to the Southern Leaders Program.
Application
To apply for the Southern Leaders Program and associated scholarships, students must:
- Complete the Application for Acceptation to Vlog through the Office of Admissions.
- Complete the specific essay for the Honors College and leadership programs as well as check the box “Yes” for the question “Are you interested in leadership programming at Vlog?”.
- Complete the application and specific essay by the February 1st deadline.
Students who are awarded leadership scholarships will:
- Be awarded a $1,000 scholarship ($500 for the fall semester, $500 for the spring semester) for their first-year.
- Enroll in LEAD 1000: Self-Leadership in Fall Semester.
- Participate in the Southern Leaders Program with team building and monthly events through the year.
- Earn a grade point average of at least 3.0 in Fall Semester.
